Afro-Brazilian songs and Black Feminism
– Alba Cristina Soares (Ya Darabi) and Coletivo Transatlânticas: Ana Graça Correia Wittkowski, Bárbara Luci Carvalho, Betânia Ramos Schröder and Tainá Correia Wittkowski
The workshop offers two special experiences: First, Ya Darabi introduces the participants to the fascinating world of Brazilian folk music, which is passed on orally within families, communities, villages, Quilombolas and Candomblé communities. Together we will sing, dance and experience among others Samba de Roda, Maracatu and songs of the washerwomen and Orikins. These songs tell the stories of those who often go unheard but have much to say. In the second part of the workshop, the collective Transatlânticas, founded by the artistic director of the International Womens* Theater Festival, Bárbara Luci Carvalho, creates a space for reflection and creative experiences. Here we delve deeply into Afro-Brazilian feminism and explore its diverse expressions in the performing arts, literature and female ancestral traditions. Together we celebrate this cultural richness and let our voices resound powerfully.
