The paths of memory
A live dance and music project as an in situ installation.
“The Paths of Memory” is a creative project started by the choreographer Isabelle Maurel at the Pantheon in Paris. It soon became a duet between her and Viviana Bovino. The two choreographers questioned the role of women artists as “healers” of the community, focusing on moving images and memories of forgotten figures and female archetypes. The creation includes a dynamic installation composed of 30 chromatically different fabrics that define the fluid identities of the dancing bodies, as well as the structure and boundaries of the space that is occupied and transformed during the performance. The performance took a new step in Paris in 2024, when the dance met the words of the poet Mariame Damba (“The City of Women”) and the percussion of Eddie Allen (gong, djembe and various original percussion instruments). It now has the form of a multidisciplinary performance, a total work of art reflecting on the bridge between the heritage of dance theater and Arte Povera.
