Mon. 16 – Fri. 20.09. from 5 p.m. | Sat. 21 and Sun. 22.09. from 3 p.m.
The International Women’s* Theater Festival (IF*TF) is an event that aims to strengthen feminist perspectives in contemporary theater and the performing arts, to address gender injustice in the cultural sector, and to build an international network of women* artists.
For eight years, the International Women's Theater Festival (IF*TF) has been an important source of inspiration for strengthening feminist projects at the state and national level. As part of the Magdalena Project network, we are internationally connected and have set ourselves the task of establishing this network in the independent scene in Germany. To this end, we are organizing a special festival format on the cultural grounds of our association for international performing arts: For one week, we invite solo artists and groups to come together in the performance and production space of protagon e.V., to get in touch with each other, to exchange ideas and to present their artistic work to the audience in Frankfurt am Main.
The program and schedule of the International Women's Theatre Festival is characterized by the idea of empowerment and collectivity: During the day there will be workshops in theatre, dance and much more for women* and girls, from 5 pm the area opens its doors to everyone for Pandora's Box (video installations) & the Feminist Futures Gallery (exhibition). The Babushka Café offers pancakes, soups and cakes with delicious teas, and this year there is also a new food stand: "Papa Nostra" with chips and different sauces. In the foyer, the IF*TF invites you to enjoy the sounds of concerts, discussions and good drinks, such as wine from the city of Frankfurt. Theater and performances will take place in the hall and on the open-air stage on the protagon grounds - but there will also be room for dancing! There will be a children's program on Sunday afternoon.
We want to create a peaceful and safe environment at the IF*TF where everyone can feel comfortable, regardless of gender and gender identity, sexual identity, disability, origin, nationality, age, language, religion or ideology. Creating such a space and taking values such as consideration, solidarity and tolerance seriously is the responsibility of all of us. We have also set up an awareness team at the festival that is always present. Our care team is also clearly visible on site and can be contacted for any issues related to hygiene and safety.
We have made the festival as accessible as possible. The venues and toilets are wheelchair accessible.
The workshops are dedicated to women* and girls* and are funded by a registration fee. Admission to all other events is voluntary and open to all genders.
We provide childcare.
Most events, such as dance and physical theatre, are low-language and in English. Please check the program for more information.
All theatrical workshops, performances, concerts and other cultural activities are funded in solidarity through donations (amount at your discretion).
Join us, let's create the festival together to celebrate, dance, learn, be touched and create a safer space for all!
