In ihrer Lecture Performance king-ing the drag – drag-ing the king spricht Bridge Markland unterhaltsam, unakademisch und mit einem Schwerpunkt auf der Entwicklung ihrer Drag- und Gender-Performances über ihr Leben und ihre Arbeit. Das Publikum erfährt faszinierende Details und Anekdoten über den Ursprung der Performances – von Recherchen auf der Straße, in Clubs und auf Partys bis hin zu ihrer berühmtesten Performance „The most beautiful Woman in the World“. Das Publikum erfährt außerdem von ihrem Auftritt 1996 im legendären Casanova Club in New York City, der von der Drag-King-Legende Mo B. Dick organisiert wurde, sowie von ihrem Porträt in Gabriel Baurs Dokumentarfilm „Venus Boyz“. Biographie: Die Berliner Performerin Bridge Markland ist Virtuosin in Rollenspiel und Transformation, wobei sie die Grenzen zwischen Tanz, Theater, Drag- und Gender Performance, Cabaret und Puppentheater überschreitet.
Markland ist Pionierin der Drag- und Gender Performance in Deutschland und organisiert seit 1994 Drag-King Events, Tourneen und Festivals.
Im Jahr 2000 erfanden Bridge Markland und Diane Torr das go drag! festival – Konzept: Drag- Kunst von Frauen, trans* und Nicht-Binären, welches bisher 4x in Berlin und München stattfand. Bridge tourte mit ihren Performances durch Deutschland, Europa, die USA, Kanada und Australien.
Seit 2005 ist einer ihrer Schwerpunkte, Kollagen klassischer deutscher Theaterstücke mit Popsongs aufzuführen – performt als EinFrauPlaybackTheater mit Rollenwechseln (Drag Show) und Puppen als Gegenspielenden. Gezeigt wurden faust in the box nach Goethe, nathan in the box nach Lessing, woyzeck in the box nach Büchner, krug in the box nach Kleist u.a.

In her lecture-performance *king-ing the drag – drag-ing the king*, Bridge Markland speaks about her life and work in an entertaining, non-academic style, focusing on the evolution of her drag and gender performances. The audience learns fascinating details and anecdotes about the origins of these performances—ranging from research conducted on the street, in clubs, and at parties to her most famous piece, “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World.” Attendees also hear about her 1996 appearance at New York City’s legendary Casanova Club—organized by drag king legend Mo B. Dick—and her portrayal in Gabriel Baur’s documentary *Venus Boyz*. During the lecture-performance, the audience has the chance to witness Bridge’s most famous transformation live. A Q&A session follows the presentation.

Biography: The Berlin performer Bridge Markland is a virtuoso in role play and transformation, crossing the boundaries between dance, theater, drag and gender performance, cabaret and puppet theater.
Markland is a pioneer of drag and gender performance in Germany and has been organizing drag king events, tours and festivals since 1994.
In 2000, Bridge Markland and Diane Torr invented the go drag! festival – concept: drag art by women, trans* and non-binary people, which has taken place 4 times in Berlin and Munich. Bridge has toured her performances through Germany, Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia.
Since 2005, one of her main focuses has been performing collages of classic German plays with pop songs – performed as a one-woman playback theater with role changes (drag show) and puppets as counterparts. Shown were Faust in the Box after Goethe, Nathan in the Box after Lessing, Woyzeck in the Box after Büchner, Krug in the Box after Kleist and others.
